Covid-19: Kenya records 704 new cases with a positivity rate of 10.4%

Kenya has recorded 704 new Covid-19 cases from sample size of 6,776 tested, pushing the cumulative confirmed cases to 241,134 while the positivity rate now stands at 10.4%. 

From the new cases, 667 are Kenyans while 37 are foreigners and 367 are female while 337 are male. 

The youngest case is a one-year-old infant while the oldest is 104 years old. 

The Ministry of Health has stated that total recoveries now stands at 229,762 as 756 more patients have recovered from the disease. 

From the new recoveries, 689 being from the home-based isolation and care programme while 67 are from various hospitals in Kenya. 

Sadly, five more people succumbed to the disease. All were late deaths recorded after conducting facility record audits in September. The cumulative fatalities now stand at 4,800. 

Currently, 1,815 patients are admitted to various hospitals in Kenya while 4,053 are in home-based isolation and care, the Health Ministry revealed. 

Of the 147 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 104 are on ventilatory support, 33 on supplemental oxygen and 10 are under observation.

Another 771 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 709 of them in general wards and 62 in high dependency units.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, a total of 2,874,858 vaccine dosed had been administered across the country as of September 6, 2021. 

Of the administered vaccines, total first doses are 2,080,483 while second doses are 814,375.
