Tokyo Olympics: Rotich, Korir storm to 800m final

Ferguson Rotich and Emmanuel Korir sailed through to the men's 800 meters finals set for Wednesday as their compatriot Michael Saruni bowed out of the Olympics Games after failing to qualify from the semis.

Rotich sailed to victory in 1:44:04 while Isiah Jeweth of the US came second in their heat.

Kenya's Korir who had earlier been disqualified in the 400 meters heat after a false start came second in his heat earning automatic qualification for the finals clocking 1:44:74 behind Poland's Patryk Dobelc who also clocked 1:44:74.


The third Kenyan in the semis, Michael Saruni however failed to sail through after finishing sixth in his heat clocking 1:44:54.


The duo will now be seeking to defend David Rudisha's title won in both Rio and Brazil.
