False start disqualifies Korir from 400m in Tokyo Olympics

Emmanuel Korir experienced a downside in the Tokyo Olympics when he was disqualified for a false start in the men’s 400m preliminaries held Sunday morning.

In the heat four line up, Korir was to challenge World silver medallist Anthony Zambrano of Colombia and the reigning champion Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa.

When the race was stopped, the disappointed Kenyan athlete left the track escorted by the officials having seen red.

Korir had already secured a spot in the 800m semi-finals to be held later on Sunday but he unfortunately missed a chance for double victory.

He competed in both 400m and 800m and made it to the finals at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, making the Tokyo Olympics the second time.
