Sputnik V vaccine importation firm demands Ksh.4.8B compensation from NMG

Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine importation firm, Dinlas Pharma EPZ Limited, is demanding compensation of Ksh.4.8 billion from the Nation Media Group (NMG) over claims of defamation.

Therefore, the pharmaceutical manufacturing company is seeking court orders restraining the media house from publishing defamatory words.

Court documents indicate that the company claims that it suffered a loss of Ksh.4.8 billion after NMG's publication titled COVID millionaires.

The documents read in part, “Daily Nation of 2nd April 2021 the defendants jointly and severally printed or caused to be printed or caused to be published the following words defamatory of the plaintiff…”

Through lawyer Donald Kipkorir, Dinlas Pharma EPZ Limited claims the words used in the news item painted the company as a corrupt entity and that it is part of the companies that made corrupt supplies to KEMSA.

According to the company, the said publication and printing have caused it to suffer business reputation and embarrassment.

Therefore, it expects the court to issue a permanent injunction restraining NMG from further publishing words defamatory to the company.
