Senator Cheruiyot hits out at Raila over recent remarks on graft war

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has indirectly criticised the statement made by ODM leader Raila Odinga regarding his plans for addressing corruption if he becomes president.

Cheruiyot took to Twitter on Monday and stated that as per the Constitution of Kenya, there is an independent institution that is mandated to deal with corruption.

Addressing residents of Mvita on Saturday ,Raila said that he will ensure that all corrupt leaders in the Jubilee government are prosecuted.

Without mentioning Raila, Cheruiyot went ahead and tweeted that fighting corruption is not any politician's job, particularly a president's.

According to the Kericho Senator, even though MCAs and MPs can at most do their oversight role, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is constitutionally  mandated to probe such cases.

He wrote, “Constitutionally, it is the mandate of EACC. What presidential candidates should promise Kenyans is that they will not use EACC to fight political battles. That's it.”

On Saturday, Raila criticized a politician's mega cash donations to churches and welfare groups in a manner that seemed to be an attack on Deputy President William Ruto.

The ODM leader alleged that the monies come from proceeds of corruption that has taken root in the Jubilee administration.

“He wants to do harambees for women's groups and youth groups with cash stuffed in sacks. He goes to church. Then they say he respects God. But he is coming with your money," Raila said.

“You are being bought with stolen money." he added.
