The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) now says it will move to court to challenge Jubilee party victory in the recent concluded Muguga ward by-election.
Jubilee candidate Joseph Mung'ara Githinji was declared the winner of the mini polls after he got 4,089 votes against UDA's Peter Kamau Thumbi who lost by 27 votes. Thumbi garnered 4062 votes in the closely contested race.
Confirming the development, UDA's chief agent in the election James Gacheru said that the party will now ask Mr. Thumbi to rescind his concession so that they may pursue the matter in court.
" A great majority of the 110 votes which were categorized as rejected votes belonged to our candidate. Given the slim margin reconsideration of the votes would have a significant impact on the final tally," Mr. Gacheru told journalist at PCEA Lay Training and Conference Center in Muguga.
However, the party's announcement comes just days after Mr. Thumbi conceded defeat pledging to support Mr Githinji.
"In every competition, there must be a winner. This was not my time. So, I take this opportunity to congratulate the winner [Joseph Mung’ara Githinji], and wish him well. May we live to fight another time. UDA believes when you lose an election, you accept,” he stated.
