MP Gachagua freed on Sh 12 m bond

Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua, who spent the weekend behind bars on Monday pleaded not guilty to six counts related to Sh 7.4 billion graft allegations.


He faces charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property, conflict of interest, and conspiracy to defraud the Nyeri County government.


Mr. Gachagua who was arrested on July 23 at his Sagana home in Nyeri was charged alongside nine others who weren't in court.


He appeared before Chief Magistarte Lawrence Mugambi who granted the prosecution wish of summoning those we didn't appear in court.

Gachagua was released on a Sh 12 million cash bail or bond of 25 million and ordered  to deposit his passport in court.

However Gachagua's legal team led by Kioko Kilukumi asked the magistrate to consider the cash bail in question.

The case will be mentioned on August 9th.
