The Ugandan State House has confirmed that hundreds of Ugandans received water shots disguised as Covid-19 vaccines as per the results it released from the sample of the vaccines used to test their legitimacy.
According to a number of Ugandan publications, over 800 people and an unspecified number of clients from various companies in the Kampala Metropolitan area received fake Covid-19 vaccinations.
The director of the State House Health Monitoring Unit, Dr. Warren Naamara, said that duped several people and companies and administered fake vaccines to them between May 15 and June 17.
He added that the suspects include a doctor who is currently on the run.
However, two nurses from Nakawa, Kampala were arrested by State House detectives as they were believed to be suspects. They were remanded in Kitalya Prison.
According to Dr. Naamara, several suspected fake Covid-19 vaccine vitals had been sent to the Directorate of Government Analytical Laboratory in Wandegeya and the National Drug Authority (NDA) for analysis.
The suspected fake Covid-19 sample was sent to Serum Institute of India by the NDA.
The Serum Institute of India, a manufacturer of vaccines and immunobiologicals, for comparison with genuine vaccines, confirmed that the previously mentioned batch was never supplied to Uganda and that the product label information was forged.
According to Government Analytical Laboratory,
the seized vaccines were dissimilar to the genuine vials.
Naamara said, “The fake vaccines were more of water than anything else from the chemical contents as it was analysed.”
“All persons and cooperate companies who were vaccinated at a fee, especially within the premises of work by the suspect still at large are advised to get a free Covid-19 jab at the Ministry of Health approved vaccination centres ,” he advised.
Furthermore, Naamara informed the public that they should continue to receive vaccinations at Kiswa Health Centre IV as the forgery of those involved took place outside of the facility.
