A crash that involved an ambulance from the County Government of Kirinyaga and a matatu from NENO sacco occurred on Wednesday evening, leaving eleven people seriously injured.
Gichugu sub-county police commander Anthony Mbogo confirmed the incident, adding that the ambulance was heading to Kerugoya from Embu hospital while the matatu with 9 passengers was heading to Embu from Nairobi.
He said, “I called my officers to the scene shortly after the accident where 11 people were taken to Embu hospital.”
The Gichugu police boss also said that both drivers from ambulance and matatu sustained serious injuries but the patient in the ambulance was not injured.
“The patient who was a middle-aged woman was not injured ,officers made sure everything was safe,” Mbogo said.
Locals living along the Mwea-Embu highway have expressed concerns over the increasing number of accidents on the busy highway, urging the government to erect more bumps in the area.
