Kisumu County cleared to dispose 69 unclaimed bodies

Kisumu County government have been granted court orders allowing them to dispose of 69 unclaimed bodies lying in various mortuaries.

This followed an earlier directive issued by the county government to clear the bodies for burial within 48 hours amidst rising cases of coronavirus in the county.

County Attorney and Legal Advisor Edris Omondi told a local news outlet that the county will go ahead and bury the bodies in various cemeteries in the county in case they remain uncollected by Friday this week.

According to Kisumu county government, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital has the highest number of unclaimed bodies at 51, while Kisumu County has 15 bodies and the Port Florence Hospital has 2.
