Former Ivory Coast's President Laurent Gbagbo to return home after ICC acquittal

Former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo is expected to return home 10 years after he was arrested and taken to the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity.

Gbagbo 76, has been living in Belgium capital Brussel since his acquittal and subsequent release from  prison in 2019.

His successor and political arch-rival Alassane Ouattara invited him back.

Gbagbo was the first former Head of State to be put on trial at the ICC and acquitted of all charges.

He was charged after he refused to concede defeat in 2010 election triggering to a civil war that led to the death of 3,000 people.
