President Uhuru Kenyatta has gazetted the appointment of Lady Justice Martha Koome as the Chief Justice of Kenya.
In a Gazette notice on Wednesday, the Head of State appointed Koome hours after her nomination was unanimously approved by the National Assembly.
Members of Parliament voted to approve the report of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee ( JLAC)that recommended Koome to succeed emeritus Chief Justice David Maraga.
The report was tabled In the floor of the August House on Wednesday by JLAC Chairman Muturi Kigano.
Lady Justice Koome becomes Kenya's first female Chief Justice.
She has over 33 years of experience in the legal profession. She joined the judiciary in 2003.
