ODM's Pavel Oimeke wins Bonchari by-election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has declared Pavel Robert Oimeke of the Orange Democratic Movement ( ODM) the winner of the just-concluded Bonchari Parliamentary by-election.

IEBC Returning Officer Benson Ambuko declared the results after a long night of tallying at Suneka CDF Hall.

Oimeke garnered 8,049 votes against his closet challenger Zebedeo Opore of Jubilee Party who got 7,279 votes.

UDA's Teresa Bitutu came third with 6,964 votes. She is the widow of the former Bonchari MP Oroo Oyioka.

According to IEBC, 26526 out of the 52,955 voters came out to cast their votes this translated to 50.0 per cent

446 votes cast were rejected.

10 other candidates who were also battling out for the seat garnered less than five per cent of the votes cast.


During yesterday's voting exercises cases of voter bribery and intimidation were reported.
