Salim Ali says he was dismissed for refusing to resign

Former Mathare United coach Salim Ali has disclosed that his immediate former employers suggested to him to resign but on refusing, he was sacked.

The consistent poor performance of the slum boys, that has been stuck at the bottom of the standings after 15 rounds of matches of the FKF-PL, led to his dismissal.

Salim said, “They sacked me, they wanted me to resign but I did not see any need because it came as a surprise to me bearing in mind that about one and a half months ago, we had mutually agreed I finish the season then see if I can sign a new deal or not.”

On Sunday, Mathare United played to a barren draw with Vihiga United, missing out on three points.

It is highly likely that the outcome sealed Salim’s fate at the club.

The team has a six-point gap between them and safety as they occupy the last automatic relegation spot in the league.

Coach Salim Ali says he is not bitter even though the club sacked him and he believes he had what it takes to keep the team afloat.

“They might say that they sacked me on performance basis, that the team has not won as many games as it was anticipated, it’s in a bad position and has not performed well this season , but we have to ask ourselves , is this the first time Mathare is under performing ? It’s not,” he added.

The club have appointed Frank Ouna with immediate effect who will take charge until the end of the season.
