Gov't extends Kazi Mtaani Program

The government through the Steering Committee of the National Hygiene Program better known as Kazi Mtaani has announced an extension of the  initiative which was to end on March 4, 2021.


In a statement State Department of Housing and Urban Planning Principal Secretary Charles Hinga said the decision to extend the program will bring relief to over 280,000 youths engaged in the initiative.

" The President promised two weeks ago that Kazi Mtaani will be extended following an appeal by the youth." read a statement from the PS.

According to the PS, during the extension period, workers will operate on two shifts each working for 11 days a month and earning Ksh 455 per day while supervisors earn Ksh 505 per day.


The Kazi Mtaani program was launched in July 2020 as an economic recovery initiative to cushion youths and vulnerable members in the informal sector.

The cohorts engaged in the program, collect garbages, unclog drainages, clear bushes and walkways.
