23 people arrested for flouting curfew protocols

23 individuals were arrested on Saturday night, March 27 in Wangige town, Kiambu County for allegedly violating the 8pm curfew rule.

Reportedly, the suspects were loitering outside a few minutes after 8 PM, contrary to the new lockdown measures that President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on Friday, March 26, to curb the rising cases of Covid-19 infections across the country.

The stringent measures by the government are as a result of the third wave of the pandemic.

Kiambu, Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, and Nakuru are the five counties on which the president imposed strict regulations. Curfew hours begin at 8 PM and end at 4 AM.

Bar owners, bodaboda operators, matatu operators and motorists are among those arrested and they will be arraigned in court on Monday, March 28.

The OCPD Kabete Sub County, Anthony Maina, said, “This operation will continue until it is deemed fit to stop it. This is not an ordinary time, it’s an extraordinary time and it calls for extraordinary measures so we will do what it takes to make sure we win this war.”
