COVID-19: Nairobi County closes all government offices as 884 more people test positive

Nairobi County has shut down all government offices that offer non-essential services for 30 days as the Ministry of health records 884 new Covid-19 cases in the country.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's recent announcement on the new COVID-19 protocols was the basis of closure. Uhuru said that Nairobi County accounted for 57 percent of all the positive cases in Kenya.

Kenya has so far recorded a total of 130,214 which is an increase.

The 884 new positive cases were recorded from a sample size of 5,377 pushing total tests to 1,468,835.

From the new cases, 843 are Kenyans while 41 are foreigners. 464 are females and 420 are males. The youngest is a year-year-old baby while the oldest is 110 years.

Cumulative fatalities now stand at 2,117 as 13 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 91,754 as 89 patients have recovered from the disease whereby 57 are from Home Based and Isolation Care, while 32 are from various health facilities.

According to Deputy Governor Anne Kananu, the closure was necessary to curb the spread of the virus.

She stated, "The County Government of Nairobi will therefore close its non-essential offices for 30 days, in strict compliance with the 15th presidential address on the pandemic and the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 protocols.

"This is a carefully considered measure to help curtail the spread of Covid-19," Kananu added.
