Virginia Mutei clinches victory in Kenya Seed Golf series

Virginia Mutei won the Kenya Seed Golf series held at the weekend in Eldoret Golf Club, Uasin Gishu County. 

Mutei clinched the victory after carding 42 stableford points playing handicap 35.

The tournament had four leading clubs of Kitale, Nandi Bears, Kakamega among others and Eldoret golfers swept the top 17 positions. 

Despite a tough start, Mutei managed to edge out former lady captain Jane Koech and Wesley Kiprono who played under the new World Handicap System (WHS) to win the title. 

The Eldoret golfer said she managed to beat all the odds to win the title because of her practice. 

Mutei said, “My Friday training bore fruits because I had one of the fastest training which I knew I could post good results the following day during the game and I’m happy because I led.” 

She added that the second nine where there was a total hold up for about an hour proved to be a bit difficult. 

“I started badly in the second nine because of the holdup concluding with plus 8, but I kept on improving especially on the most difficult hole 14 that has the river with many trees and earning a par, there was great,” the golfer added.

Koech who was playing handicap 27 finished second while Kiprono who was playing handicap 25 finished third. The prize list was however completed by Amos. 

On 21 points, Kennedy Serem won the best effort title while Aron Kitur won the nearest to pin prize.

Former Eldoret captain Sandeep Grewal won the men’s title while Faith Chemtai of Nandi Bears picked the longest drive ladies. 

The first nine title was received by Grewal on 21 points.John Kibosia, who is the former Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Director won the second nine title with similar score.

Chemtai won the guest prize on 38 points while 
Kitale Golf club’s Elly Rutto won the staff prize on 28 points.
