Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has refuted claims that his car hit and killed Chris Nderitu, a disabled man who was allegedly run over by three high-end vehicles as they were heading to Sagana State Lodge.
Speaking to a local news outlet, Kivuti admitted that one of the cars involved in the accident in which Nderitu lost his life was his but dismissed claims that he fleed the scene after the incident.
"It's not true that the victim was killed in a hit and run, " he told Nation.
According to Kivuti, the three-vehicles which were part of more than 50 vehicles in the convoy of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi were towed to Naro Moru Police station.
"The drivers of the three cars were left on the scene. I hopped into Mr Muturi’s car for the rest of the journey,”
He further revealed that upon arrival at the State Lodge they informed President Kenyatta of the accident who in turn dispatched Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and Kieni MP Kanini Kega to the home of the deceased, and paid for the funeral expenses and fees for Nderitu's children for four years.
"My car was involved but it wasn't the one that knocked him, " maintained Kivuti
An eye witness who was with the deceased at the time of the incident identified the car that knocked down as a black Toyota Land Cruiser
On Friday while appearing at a local television station, National Police Service Spokesman Charles Owino said the police were yet to impound the said vehicle but assured the family that justice would be served.
Nderitu was laid to rest yesterday at Thegu Ward, Kieni Constituency.
