Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko arrested

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Monday arrested by the police at Office Park in Nairobi.

The Governor was meeting MCAs at the Riverside drive based offices.

Police disrupted the meeting by lobbing tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The police accused Governor Sonko of flouting Covid-19 protocols.

Sonko was briefy arrested before being released after protests from the MCAs allied to him.

Last week, Nairobi County Assembly initiated an impeachment motion last week on grounds of gross violation of the law, committing a crime under the national and international laws, and lacking the capability to run the county.

The meeting's agenda remains unknown but it is believed that meeting was for strategizing on how to block his impending impeachment slated for Thursday, December 3, 2020.

86 of 122 MCAs signed in support of the motion. This becomes the second time in less than a year that Sonko faces impeachment.
