Mugo wa Wairimu, a man found to be a fake doctor has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. The alternative is that he must pay a Shs1.4 million fine.
The ruling against Wairimu was delivered on Wednesday October 28 by Nairobi Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Nanzushi.
The court found him guilty of operating a medical clinic without a license and convicted him of practising as an unregistered and unlicensed medic.
According to the allegations, Wairimu has been running an unregistered pharmacy and managing a medical laboratory without a license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Practitioners and other relevant entities.
Kenyans learned about Wairimu after an expose' on national Television allegedly about him raping a female patient at his Prestige Clinic in Githurai.
Since then he was on the run but was arrested on September 10 2015 at a Limuru hotel.
The police raided his clinic in 2015 and found equipment believed to be used for illegal abortions.
Although it was confirmed that Wairimu graduated from the University of Nairobi (UoN) on November 27, 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, he engaged in unscrupulous behavior in the practice with the required licenses.
The Nursing Council of Kenya confirmed that Wairimu is not a qualified nurse.
