The Anglican Church of Kenya(ACK) in Butere has begun the process of electing a new Bishop following the resignation of Bishop Timothy Wambunya in September this year. Bishop Wambunya resigned citing health and family issues.
The top church leadership met at St Luke's diocesan headquarters in Butere to start the process of replacement. Bishop Joseph Wandera of Bishop Hannington Church in Mumias was appointed to act in an interim capacity.
Rev Wambunya was consecrated on October 6, 2013 as the third Bishop of Butere. His family resides in the UK and he cited the need to be with them as the reason for leaving service in Kenya.
ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit attended the meeting that brought together all diocesan leaders forom the Western region.
