Jubilee Party candidate Donald Fundi has emerged victorious in the just concluded Mahoo Ward by-election.
Fundi garnered 1,609 votes beating his closet challenger Daniel Kimuyu of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) who got 1,358 votes.
Tujibebe Wakenya Party candidate, Samuel Obwoge, came a distance third with 89 votes
"I will be Mahoo ward representative for a very short time considering we will be going the General Election in August next year. Within that period, my focus will be to unite the electorate," Fundi said shortly after he was declared the winner by Taveta returning officer Abdul Jamada,
He will succeed former area MCA Ronald Sagurai, who passed on four months ago.
At the same time United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate Simon Kiambi emerged victorious in the Kiagu Ward by-election conducted on Thursday.
Kiambi trounced his competitors by garnering 2,240 votes in a tight race that saw his rival Milton Mwenda of Chama Cha Kazi get 1,823 votes to emerge second.
Deputy President William Ruto while congratulating the two UDA candidates in the by-elections said the results imply that party is making inroads nationally.
“The People of Kiagu and Mahoo wards in Meru and Taita Taveta counties have given the economic agenda of the Hustler Nation a big thumbs up. Congratulations Hon Simon Kiambi for winning in Kiagu and Daniel Kimuyu for coming second in Mahoo,” Ruto wrote.
“The Hustler Nation is strong. The bottom-up economic model is gaining ground.”
