Court orders Nyandarua County to pay Ksh 30M to three former CECs

October 12, 2021 0
Nyandarua County Government has been ordered by the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nakuru to pay Ksh.30 million to three former County Executive Committee members (CECs) for wrongful dismissal.

Justice Hellen Wasilwa delivered the judgement on Tuesday, noting that the county government violated the rights of the three former CECs; Simon Ng’ang’a, Faith Mbugua and Muthoni Wamuiya.

Each former CEC will receive a compensation of Ksh.10 million.

Simon Ng’ang’a was in charge of Water and Environment, Faith Mbugua was in charge of Education while Muthoni Wamuiya headed the Industrialization and Trade department.

Governor Kimemia failed to renew their contracts, thereby dismissing them.

The three former CECs moved to court to challenge their dismissal which they termed as illegal and a violation of their right to fair administrative practices.

According to them, the governor’s action was wrong and unfair as they learned of it through the media.

October 11, 2021 0
A woman suspected to have attacked a family, murdered seven-year-old boy and seriously injured the mother on the night of September 24, 2021 has been arrested.

Reportedly, the suspect, identified as Lydia Jelagat, had been working for the bereaved family as a nanny before allegedly committing the crime.

According to preliminary investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect sneaked into her employer’s master bedroom armed with a panga and rungu on that fateful night.

DCI tweeted, “Armed with a panga and a rungu, the 24-year-old house help who had been graciously offered a nanny's job in the home of a Rumuruti based prison warder, crept stealthily into the master bedroom of her employer in the dead of the night, heinously attacking her in her sleep.”

The DCI stated that the incident occurred when  the man of the house was away on work-related duties.

Police stated, "It was in the process of getting the woman ready for the hospital that the neighbours discovered the boy's cold body hidden under the bed. He had some blood oozing from the mouth, with no physical injuries.”

The woman was rushed to a hospital in Nyandarua where to receive treatment while the body of her son was taken to the morgue for autopsy.

Detectives working on the case nabbed the suspect some days later at a friend’s place in Kongasis.

Jelagat is currently in police custody at Marigat Police Station awaiting arraignment at Kabarnet Law Courts tomorrow.

Just recently, Wahome was recently impeached for the third time but the Nakuru High Court reinstated him the company of 10 MCAs allied to him.

A section of members of the public also demanded that Governor Francis Kimemia stop using his powers to subvert the rule of law at the assembly.

However, the faction allied to the governor however denied the Wahome-led team access the assembly premises.

Some of the MCAs who had been locked out then attempted to forcefully gain entry, causing chaos and prompting police officers to use tear gas canisters to disperse the large crowd at the gates chanting anti-Kimemia slogans.

The MCAs supporting Speaker Wahome had planned to table an impeachment motion against the governor, but their plans were thwarted.
