Airtel Kenya appoints Ashish Malhotra as its new MD

Airtel Networks Limited has appointed Ashish Malhotra as its new Managing Director replacing Prasanta Das Sarma.

Malhotra previously served as the Group Head of Sales and Marketing at Airtel Africa, leading the function in 14 countries where the telco is operational.

During his tenure as the Head of Sales, he doubled revenues, streamlining pricing principles and building strong unique selling propositions across the countries.

Malhotra holds an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), India and a Bachelor of Commerce from Sri Ram College of Commerce, India.

Prasanta Das Sarma, who is the outgoing MD has since been appointed as Fiber Co CEO for Airtel Africa.

Das Sarma is credited form leading Airtel Kenya to become the fastest growing telecom company in Kenya, growing subscriber base from 5 million to 16 million.

The firm board has also appointed Louis Onyango Otieno as Chairman.
