Sakaja bid in limbo as CUE revokes recognition of his degree

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has suffered a major setback in his bid to succeed Governor Anne Kananu as the county boss after the Commission for University Education (CUE) revoked the recognition of his Bachelor of Science in Management Degree from Team University.

According to a letter addressed to Sakaja from the commission, material information had been received by the CUE which raised questions into the validity of his academic credentials.

The commission now says that it will open a probe into the validity of the papers Sakaja presented before the IEBC for clearance to run.

"CUE has, however, received material information about the authenticity of the degree you presented from Team University that will require further investigation to ascertain the validity of the said degree,” read part of the letter from the commission's chairperson Prof Nyaigotti-Chacha.

"Consequently, in accordance to (sic) the CUE recognition procedures, we hereby revoke the recognition of your degree from the aforementioned university,” the letter further reads.

IEBC dispute and resolution committee is now expected to a make a ruling on the matter since a gubernatorial candidate requires a degree certificate which has to be certified by the CUE.
