Businessman Jimi Wanjigi suffers set back in his bid for Presidency

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has suffered a major setback in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta after the electoral commission rejected his bid citing he failed to comply with the set requirements.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati while rejecting the Safina Presidential candidate said he lacked a degree certificate.

“Degree certificate is mandatory and due to that, I am rejecting your application to be nominated as a candidate for presidential election slated for August 9, this year. That is my decision as the returning officer for presidential elections,” ruled Mr. Chebukati.

Reacting to the move, Mr Wanjigi protested the commission's decision saying it was a ploy to lock him out of the elections .

“It is very clear what is going on here, there is a very clear plan being decided somewhere else, not here,” You cannot apply different rules to different people, and this is the intention and your direction as a commission, then I fear greatly for the coming elections,” said Mr. Wanjigi

Wanjigi's team took offense with IEBC for clearing another candidate, Walter Mong’are of Umoja Summit Party whom they alleged lacked a degree certificate.

“We want you to respond on the clearance that you gave to Walter Nyambane, similar facts, same university, was cleared on the strength of that letter. Why are you running away when it comes to our candidate?” Posed Wanjigi’s running mate Willis Otieno.

Unbowed by the growing dissent,Mr. Chebukati asked Wanjigi to head over to the dispute resolution committee.

“It is my decision, and if you any issues, we the dispute resolution committee, thank you very much and these proceedings are over,” he said.
