Former President Mwai Kibaki's burial date announced

Retired President Mwai Kibaki will be laid to rest on April 30 at his Othaya home in Nyeri County, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i announced Saturday.

Matiang'i who chairs fhs funeral committee of the late president said the burial will be preceded by a state funeral at Nyayo National Stadium on April 29.

"We have finalised preliminary plans for the state funeral of His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki and I would like the public to know that this will take place on Friday the 29th of April 2022 at National Stadium," he said.

His body will lie in state at Parliament Building from Monday through Wednesday next week.

Kibaki, who served as Kenya’s third President from 2002 to 2013 died on Friday aged 90.

His death was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi on Friday.
