The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned ODM leader Raila Odinga over his madoadoa remarks that he made during Azimio La Umoja rally in Wajir on Wednesday.
In a statement on Friday, NCIC Chairman Dr Samuel Kobia said the term madoadoa is considered hate speech in Kenya.
"The Commission wishes to assure Kenyans of its commitment to curbing any form of hate speech, to ensure Kenya remains a stable, prosperous, and cohesive nation, and to deliver on our promise,” Dr. Kobia said.
The summons comes amid an outcry from allies of Deputy President William Ruto who have accused the state agency of double standards when applying the law.
Late last month, A Nakuru Law court acquitted Meru Senator Mithika Linturi of incitement charges after the prosecution failed to prefer charges against him.
Mr. Linturi had been arrested and arraigned before the court over alleged incitement remarks he made during DP Ruto's rally in Eldoret Sports ground on January 8th.
