Eric Theuri elected LSK President

Eric Theuri has been elected the 50th president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Theuri will serve in the position for the next two years.

He succeeds Nelson Havi, who was bundled out of office by a caucus of branch chairpersons before the end of his term, last year.

Mr Theuri garnered 1811 beating his closet challenger and LSK vice-president Caroline Kamende who had 1085 votes at national polls held on Thursday, March 10.

Other contestants who had sought to replace Havi include Omwanza Ombati 920), Mathew Nyabena(745) and former LSK treasurer Kipkoech Ng'etich(452).

Theuri, a corporate audit specialist and advocate until his election as the council's President served as LSK Nairobi branch chairperson.

Outgoing LSK President Nelson Havi led the lawyers in congratulating Mr Theuri.

“I will let you work and support you should you require my counsel. May you succeed where I failed and improve on what I did,” Havi said in his congratulatory message to Theuri.

Ms Faith Odhiambo was elected the Vice President after garnering 1734  votes while Ms Jacquiline Ingutiah was elected LSK representative to the Judicial Service Commission.

The polls were conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) across 25 designated LSK polling stations countrywide.

The electronic voting was managed by the society's seven-member elections board headed by Senior Counsel Janmohamed Zehrabanu.

This year's elections were however marked by low turnout as only 5,083 lawyers turned out to vote out of the 12,544 members of the council.
