Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri ditches ODM joins DAP-K

Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri has ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for newly formed Democratic Action Party of Kenya(DAP-K).

Mr Ongeri who is eyeing the Kisii gubernatorial seat was received at DAP-K headquarters, an affiliate party of the Azimio la Umoja on Monday.

"Senator, Professor Sam Ongeri welcome to the fastest growing political party North of the Limpopo and south of the Sahara, DAP-K," the party tweeted on Monday.

His defection comes amidst a push and pull in the ODM leadership in Kisii County pitting the gubernatorial aspirants.

Mr Ongeri's exit leaves Dangoretti North MP Simba Arati with a higher chance of flying ODM ticket.

Other candidates who have declared interest in the governor seat include former CAS Chris Obure and former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara who all are seeking Jubilee party ticket as well as Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu who will be running on a UDA party ticket.
