Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has ditched the ruling Jubilee party for ODM.
Lenku who had expressed interest in defending his seat in the President Uhuru Kenyatta led party defected alongside 10 Members of County Assembly from Kajiado County.
The governor was received by ODM leader Raila Odinga at the party's Chungwa House headquarters.
"Governor of Kajiado County Ole Lenku ditches Jubilee Party for the ODM. Also defecting are 10 MCAs who accompanied him to Chungwa House," ODM said in a statement.
Lenku's defection comes a week after his fierce competitor and former Kajiado governor David Nkedianye decamped from the ODM party to Jubilee citing that the nomination would not be free and fair.
While announcing their defection from ODM, Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje who is set to be Nkedianye's running said the decision was arrived at after the former governor discovered he was 'being played' by individuals in the party.
“We realised that all was not going well in ODM and decided that we should join the Jubilee Party where we will meet with Governor Lenku in the nominations,” Manje said.
