Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has taken his annual leave and handed over power to his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.
President Mnangagwa's office on Friday said the the Head of State will remain in the country during his three-week vacation, which began on Thursday and will run until February 5.
"During this period, Honourable Vice President, General (Retired) (Constantino) Chiwenga is acting president," the president's spokesperson George Charamba said in a brief statement.
On Twitter Mr Charamba added: "He will spend the break in the country, largely at his farm."
President Mnangagwa annual leave cames at the back drop of the sacking of Security Minister Owen Ncube who is accused of aggravating infighting in the ruling Zanu PF party.
Mr Ncube, who was a close ally of the President, was accused of engineering intraparty violence in Zanu PF during internal elections in President Mnangagwa home turf of Midlands Province.
The ruling party held its first internal elections a fortnight ago since the ouster of its long-serving leader Robert Mugabe in 2017.
The party polls were marred by claims of massive rigging and violence.
President Mnangagwa 79, a long-time confidant of Mr Mugabe, came to power in 2017 following the coup.
Vice President General Chiwenga was the commander of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces at the time of the coup.
President Mnangagwa will spend his leave in the country unlike his predecessor Mr Mugabe who spent most of his vacations in Malaysia or Singapore
