Three Chogoria Girls High School students and the driver of a 14-seater matatu they were travelling in have died in an accident at Kambiti area, Murang'a County.
Murang'a South Sub County Police Commander Alexander Shikondi confirmed the incident saying the matatu was heading to Kenol from Sagana with high school students on board when the accident occurred.
The driver of the matatu is said to have attempted to overtake around Area 49 but misjudged the distance and speed of an oncoming lorry, resulting in a head-on collision.
"We have informed Chogoria Girls High School administration of the accident," said Mr Shikondi who called on drivers to exercise caution on the roads during the festive season.
The bodies of the deceased have since been moved to General Kago Mortuary in Thika while the ill-fated vehicle has been towed to Maragua Police Station.
