US President Joe Biden has nominated former HP boss Margaret Cushing Whitman as ambassador to Kenya.
Whitman who in 2010 ran for governor of California on Republican Party but lost to Democrat Jerry Brown has been on the board of Procter and Gamble, General Motors and also served as the national board chair of Teach for America.
If endorsed by congress, she will replace Kyle McCartney who resigned in January this year after Biden took over power.
Whitman will become the second female US envoy to Kenya after Prudence Bushnell who served in the 1990s.
