Kipchoge, Kipyegon in final shortlist for Athlete of the Year award

Kenyan duo Eliud Kipchoge and Faith Kipyegon have been named on the final list of the World Athlete of the Year awards.

World Athletics has reduced its original list of nominees for both the men's and women's categories it announced in October from 10 nominees to 5.

The winners of the awards will be named at a virtual ceremony on 1 December.

Kipyegon 27, won the  1500M gold medal in both the Tokyo Olympic Games and the Diamond League becoming the third woman to retain her title after becoming a mother in between games.

On the other hand, Kipchoge 36, won the men's marathon at the Olympics retaining his title he won in Rio and furthering his dominance  of the race.

Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei was also named in the final list and will now face off with Kipchoge who won the award in 2018 and 2019.

Cheptegei 25, won the 5,000 M and also won silver in the 10,000M in Tokyo Olympics.
