The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission now says that the ongoing mass voter registration will continue until further notice.
The electoral body chairperson Wafula Chebukati said in a statement on Tuesday that IEBC will comply with the High Court order to extend the deadline for the voter registration which was to lapse on November 2.
"On November 1,2021 the High Court sitting in Eldoret issued exparte orders prohibiting the Commission from closing the national voter registration exercise scheduled to end today 2nd November, 2021," the Commision said.
A case in which the commission moved to court to challenge the order will be determined later today.
"Meanwhile, the Commission has directed that pending hearing of the case tomorrow, the registration process will continue taking place until further advised," the commission added.
The IEBC has since moved to the court challenging the order that has extended the registration period over budget constraints.
" We are currently in court so we are waiting for the ruling because how do we extend the registration when we don't have the funds, " IEBC Vice-Chairperson Juliana Chirera said.
