Embattled Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa will spend the weekend in police custody.
Mwendwa is being held at Muthaiga Police Station following his dramatic arrest at Golden Tulip Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi where he was meeting Harambee Stars players ahead of their World Cup qualifier clash against Amavumbi of Rwanda on Friday.
Mwendwa's lawyer Eric Mutua told a local news outlet that his client was denied bail with the police saying they had a lot of questions that he needed to respond to.
He will be arraigned on Monday, but it remains unclear on the charges that the police will prefer against him and whether they will be seeking more days to hold him in custody.
The Ministry of Sports flagged down the Mwendwa led FKF over allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
A caretaker committee is currently running football affairs in the country since the disbandment of FKF on Friday by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.
On Friday, the Justice(Rtd) Aaron Ringera led committee suspended the national football leagues in the country for two weeks to regularize the committee's activities across the country.
