Kenya sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has been named LG Sport's Personality for the month of September.
Omanyala achieved a major feat following his exemplary performance at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series dubbed Kip Keino classic where he smashed National Record, setting a new African Record of 9.77 seconds.
" I have been nominated many times for this award and today I am happy to win it. It is always good to be appreciated back home for your exploits. I thank LG and SJAK for thinking about sports men and women, it means a lot because our efforts are recognized,” Omanyala said.
“I am training hard, working on perfecting my start because I will be going for the big boys next year. We have many events like the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, African Championships and I am certain I will post better times.”he added.
The 100m star finished second behind American Trayvon Bromell while former World Olympic champion Justin Gatlin was third in 10.03 seconds.
In winning, the award Omanyala walks away with an LG SolarDom oven worth sh 65,000.
Omanyala floored other top nominees who include the late Agnes Tirop, Malkia Strikers trio of Mercy Moim, Sharon Chepchumba, and Gladys Ekiru and Noah Kibet who won the 800m in the Kip Keino Classic.
