Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is the latest politician to ditch the ruling Jubilee Party for Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance ( UDA).
The governor after days of expressing intentions of joining UDA made her move public and was received by DP Ruto at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi.
Governor Waiguru who was flanked by over 20 MCAs from Kirinyaga County attributed her move to pressure from her constituents and the popularity of the Bottom-Up Economic model in the region.
"It is only a fool who can continue being in the same political path with the kind of pressure that I have been facing,” she said.
“You cannot dictate to them. I have shifted to support the Bottom-Up Economic Development Model,” she added.
The first time county boss is likely to face a stiff competition in the run-up to the party's primaries with the county Women Representative Wangui Ngirici a close ally of DP Ruto also expressing interest in contesting for the UDA gubernatorial ticket .
