Ethiopia's Abiy Ahmed sworn in for a second term

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was on Monday sworn in for a second term following his party's landslide win in the June election.

He was sworn in by the President of the Supreme Court of Ethiopia Meanza Ashenati.

Abiy was nominated by the ruling Prosperity Party for the Prime Minister's job and thereafter appointed by the House of People's Representative.

As PM, Abiy will be the Head of State, Chairman of Council of Ministers and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces.

His swearing-in comes at the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in the Northern Tigray region that has threatened the economy of Ethiopia.

Abiy, the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize winner for restoring ties with neighbouring Eritrea and for pursuing sweeping political reform is also on spot for kick out United Nations Officials from the country accusing them of supporting the Tigray forces who have been battling Ethiopia forces and Allied forces.
