AK suspends activities in honour of olympian Tirop

Athletics Kenya has suspended all athletics events that were planned to take place in the next two weeks effective Thursday as the country mourn fallen athlete Agnes Jebet Tirop.

The announcement means the first and second meeting of AK cross country series slated for October 16 and October 23 in Machakos and Iten are suspended.

Tirop's lifeless body with stab wounds was found in her house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old athlete represented Kenya in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the 5000 m event and finished fourth.

In September, Tirop smashed women's only 10KM clocking 30:01 to shave 28 seconds from a previous record held by Morocco's Asmae Leghzaoui from 2002.
