The contractor of the two storey building that killed three people after it collapsed on Monday in Mamboleo estate, Kisumu County, has been arrested.
Police are still pursuing the building's owner who is still at large.
The contractor, Gilbert Aono, is being held at the Kondele police station awaiting arraignment.
29-year-old Victor Odhiambo, 25-year-old Florence Odhiambo and 30-year-old Beatrice Awuor were the three who died after the building collapsed and their bodies were moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
Last evening authorities said they believed no one was remaining in the rubble thereby calling off the rescue operation.
According to eye witnesses, most of the workers who were on site when the building came down managed to escape the terrible fate.
They added that the building was bound to collapse as it has visible cracks on it.
According to the Regional Coordinator of the National Construction Authority (NCA) Eng. Amos Musau, the authority issued the owner of the building with a notice for closure in August 2020 for not adhering to building regulations.
