Ogiek elders back nomination of Ngugi to replace Prengei

Ogiek elders have endorsed the nomination of Isaac Ngugi to replace the late Victor Prengei as a nominated Senator.

Prengei who was nominated in 2017 to represent the youth died last month in a car accident in Nakuru.

The elders had proposed the nomination of Nakuru branch Jubilee Party Chairman Peter Cheruiyot but according to Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, Cheruiyot was locked out of the post due to his age.

"The Ogiek community wanted us to appoint Cheruiyot of which we did but unfortunately, he was locked out by IEBC due to age,"he explained.

The elders who were flanked by Cheruiyot who has since been nominated to serve as the Regional Director in the party headquarters have lauded the party for the consideration of one of their own.

" I want to urge my Ogiek community to stand with the party and nominated Senator Ngugi so as to ensure he propels the dream and belief the community had in me,”Cheruyoit said

During the funeral service of the late Senator, members of the community had  asked the  party leadership to consider nominating one of their own to replace Prengei

Cheruiyot further called on Ngugi to not only represent the youths but to also focus on championing the interest of the minority groups.

“We urge Nominated Senator Ngugi to not only represent the youth but the minority groups which include Ogiek, El Molo in Turkana, Wata in Tana River, Boni in Lamu among others,” he added.
