Kayange, Loroupe appointed to Kenya Academy of sports board

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has appointed ex-Kenya 7s captain Humprey Kayange and legendary marathoner Tecla Loroupe to the board of Kenya Academy of Sports.


In a gazette notice dated September 24, CS Mohamed appointed the two sports personalities to the board for a 3 year period.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 35 (1) of the Sports Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage appoints Humphrey Kayange and Tegla Lorupe to be members of the Board of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 21st September, 2021, ” read the statement.

The appointment takes effect immediately.

Kayange's appointment to the board comes barely a month after he was appointed to the International Olympic Committee( IOC) Athlete's Commission for a four-year term.


He also sits in the Olympics Kenya Committee as an Athlete Representative.

Loroupe who is the first African woman to win the New York City Marathon on her side is a global spokeswoman for peace, women's rights, and education.
