World U-20 Championship moved by a day

The World Junior championship scheduled to be held in Nairobi between 17th-22 August will now kick off on Wednesday 18th and end on August 22nd.

In a statement, World Athletics cited logistical challenges as the reason behind the change of date.

"The impact of Covid on teams travelling and logistics of moving vital equipment around the world have proven to be a challenge,” read the statement.

“However, the full athletics programme is able to be accommodated across five days rather than five-and-a-half days with minimal impact on the athletes attending from more than 100 countries.”

According to the organizers, the revised schedule will deliver a fuller and faster-paced event. The championship will be streamed on YouTube and 14 channels that have acquired the broadcasting rights including Kenya's NTV.

The last championship was held in Tampere, Finland in 2018.
