Kenya set to receive 880,000 doses of Moderna vaccines from the U.S.

Kenya will receive 880,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine from the United States government on Monday, the Ministry of Health has said.


The consignment is expected to arrive at the JKIA a quarter to six o'clock on Monday  and will be received by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and the US ambassador to Kenya Eric Kneedler.


So far 2,374,197 persons have been vaccinated against coronavirus, of these 1,595,335 have received their first doses while 778,862 have been fully vaccinated.


On Tuesday, Kenya received some 407,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines from the UK government to boost its hopes of vaccinating 10 million adults by December  


Acting Director of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth who was at hand to receive the vaccines said the country expects to receive 1.7 million doses of Moderna vaccines and 393, 000 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccines in the coming weeks, and 1.8 million doses of Pfizer vaccines later in September.
