Two police officers in Gem, Siaya County were arrested by a multi-agency team from Kisumu on Thursday, August 19, for involvement in a robbery with violence incident.
The suspects, Senior Sergeant Martin Murimi and Police Constable Albert Kimutai are attached to Sawagongo Police Post and Yala Police Station respectively.
According to the CCTV footage reviewed by Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) led by the County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) Kisumu, there is evidence incriminating the duo.
A police report states, “They were arrested in connection to a case of attempted robbery with violence. The two were caught on tape and are lead suspects in the case."
Exhibits believed to be key in solving the case were retrieved from the suspects’ homes by the sleuths. The items included a pink marvin cap, a service cap, a black coat and a mobile phone were seized from Sgt Murimi’s house.
Police said the items seized at Kimutai's house including police seized one service cap, a marron polo t-shirt and one camouflage cap peak, resembled clothes worn by the law enforcement officers during the incident.
Detectives also recovered two firearms, a G3 and AK-47 rifles at the suspects’ respective police station.
The police report stated, "The items will aid the investigators in the case."
