Covid-19: Kenya records 1,263 new cases, positivity rate at 14.6%

Kenya has recorded 1,263 new Covid-19 infections tested from a sample size of  8,680 in the last 24 hours , pushing the cumulative cases to 225,663 while the positivity rate stands at 14.6%. 

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Health said, “From the cases 1,234 are Kenyans while 29 are foreigners. 640 are males while 623 females. The youngest is an eight-day-old infant while the oldest is 101 years.”

719 new recoveries have been recorded, bringing the total recoveries to 208,169. From the new recoveries, 607 recoveries were from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 112 were from various hospitals across the country. 

Unfortunately, death toll has risen to 4,404 as 26 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The Health Ministry stated, “All of the deaths were late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of August 2021. 

Currently, 1,982 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 9,845 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 


From the 146 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 79 are on ventilatory support and 67 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation. 

The Ministry revealed that as of Thursday August 19, 2,221,704 vaccines had been administered across the country.
