Speaker Justin Muturi declares he will contest for the Presidency in 2022

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has officially declared his presidential bid.

Speaking after meeting leaders drawn from the Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties on Saturday, Muturi said the only way for his vision of a united nation would be realized is if he succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta.

" With your support and your prayers, we will be able to clinch that top seat. We must also put ourselves at the level of any other person with the same dream,” he said.

“And I’ve given you my vision, of a country that is ruled through discipline and order, and I want to be the person who does that. And we’re not going to do it when we’re number two or number three, we can only do it when we’re number one.”

His declaration comes months after he was crowned the MT Kenya Spokesperson by the Agikuyu council of elders in a special traditional ceremony held at the Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga in Murang'a county.

Despite his coronation being endorsed by a section of  leaders, several elected leaders led by Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and Kirinyanga's Anne Waiguru challenged his installation as the community spokesperson arguing President Kenyatta was still the region's kingpin.
